Wishing All our Students a Very Happy New Year 2012

Dear Students,

I wish you all a very happy New Year. I hope that you have a fun and safe celebration ‘Aussie’ style.

Remember that the first day back is Tuesday January 3rd 2012. Check the student notice board for your class and teacher. If you have any concerns come and see me or our Senior Teacher Lucy.

Cindy is organising a BIG WELCOME BBQ for everyone at 2pm at Kamel Bar, Nomads Backpackers.  I Look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new students then.

Becky Cantor Director of Studies

Poole Gakuin JHS go Kayaking and have a BBQ.

Students enjoy kayaking on the river and an Australian BBQ!

After meeting the instructors and finally getting everybody a life jacket they all grabbed an oar and gathered round Intructor Tim for a lesson in how to paddle.

Once they were sat in their Kayaks and the other instructors had pushed them off they all started to put into action Tim’s careful instructions. With one instructor leading from the front and one instructor at the back the students all floated in the middle and went in various different directions up the river.

After a couple of rescues and collisions with each other the students who were starting to get tired began to paddle back to shore with continuous shouts from all instructors and teachers of ‘Migi Migi!’, ‘Hidari, Hidari!’

Instructor Tim gives his instructions, pushes them off and they paddle away!

Relieved to be back on dry land the students made their way a few hundred yards down the river where some amazing food had been prepared and delivered to our barbecue station. The students host families arrived and everybody enjoyed a drink and some food before getting involved in Australia’s most popular game – Cricket!

Despite the girls holding the cricket bat as if it was a baseball bat they all got the hang of it and a mix of host mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters were all running after the ball and having great fun.

The students enjoy the delicious food and play some cricket with the host families!

It was a very hot day and a beautiful place to go Kayaking and have a barbecue but in the heat and after all that hard work the students were ready to go home with their host families early in the afternoon.

A great Australian day!

Lexis English Noosa’s Elementary B class is hard at work decorating their room for the ‘groom your classroom’ competition.

They chose a tropical theme because for all of the students it is their first time celebrating Christmas in summer! Can’t wait to see their room and the rest of the classrooms fully decorated tomorrow. It’s so wonderful to see all the students getting into the Christmas spirit! Ho Ho Ho!

Phil’s Business English Class Visits The Famous Eumundi Markets

Eumundi Markets is filled with local businesses showcasing their unique and interesting products. The Business English students conducted an on site survey as part of their course. Here are some of their comments.

From my point of view every business at the market was unique. Because all the people sell so many products which were in their own way different and interesting to see

People who work at the market know how to help make customers happy and enjoy their life. Everyone smiled kindly and sometimes they gave me other information and when I said goodbye, they wished me Merry Christmas or have a good day or they prayed for my success

“Most stall holders choose this market to make a lot of contacts with customers in spite of a lot of competitors”

“Working at the markets is a good business opportunity because you can earn money and get to know a lot of people from all over the world”

“From my point of view, businesses at the markets were very beautiful. I really enjoyed the diversity of products at the market. Eumundi Markets is a good business opportunity for the storekeeper because a lot of people (customers) go there every day”

“From my point of view the Eumundi Market is a very interesting place to discover traditional products from Australia”

“From my point of view it was very interesting to speak with stall holders about their business”

“From my point of view the Eumundi Markets are really interesting and enriching because you could see all of the different businesses and to speak with customers”

“It was real business! Through this chance I could get to know about their life strategy and way. The best thing about this time was that it was not boring and didn’t make me aggressive”

“The Market was really interesting because I could see a variety of products and food. Furthermore, I talked with the stall holders about their own business which was very enriching”

“Every owner was really kind. When we said ‘excuse me if you have time would you mind answering some question’. It was very enjoyable”

“I really enjoyed this market survey. I met a lot of kind people and I could practice my English conversation. Also I could learn about how I should greet customers”

Adjectives about the market:
diverse      traditional       friendly       great       amazing       awesome
kind           wonderful       famous      different  energetic      enjoyable

Loozers Can Sometimes Be Winners

The Lexis sand volleyball tournament was full of new students today which was great to see!

The finals started out as a simple game of volleyball but when the final teams are called the Loozers and the Winners, it’s complicated for anyone no matter what language you speak! The Loozers were winners in the first round and the Winners were determined not to be the losers in the next round. The Winners engaged hard in competition and were winning for a while, but after the Loozers requested some time out for a team motivational huddle, they caught up quickly and were declared the winners! Congratulations Loozers… you are the winners!

Lexis Student Isa Becomes a Local Celebrity

The National Slam Beach Festival was held on Noosa Main Beach last weekend and one of our gorgeous students Isa Grube had her picture taken and printed in the local paper, The Noosa News.

Isa, from Brake in Germany, is studying in our IELTS prepartion class and will take her IELTS exam shortly. She says that it has been wonderful to study in such a beautiful environment. The IELTS class is an intensive academic program and she is hopeful of a good score.
