Global Love and Marriage is in the Air

Congratulations to former GV Noosa students Vitor and Lara who got married at Little Cove in Noosa on the 16th July 2010.

Vitor proposed to Lara in January this year back in their home country of Brazil. After much deliberation, they decided to come to Australia, start an English course with GV Noosa in March, then get married after their course in July. Within their first week of attending GV Noosa, close friendships were developed which quickly led to an established bridal party and a romantic Noosa beach wedding. The groomsmen where the three Rodrigo’s with nicknames Cebola, Ferrari and Gala to avoid confusion and the bridesmaids were Juliana, Fernanda and Daniela. All former and present GV students.

The beachfront ceremony was held at Little Cove near Noosa Main Beach followed by a riverfront reception at the Noosaville Caravan Park. The night before Marcelinho, Lana and Vitor  had made a big batch of  traditional Brazilian Feijoada and white rice for the wedding dinner which was accompanied with many drinks as the sunset went down and Vitor and Lara spent their first day as husband and wife.

Vitor and Lana plan to stay in Noosa till their English is fluent. Lana is working at a Cafe in Noosaville and Vitor will be studying a Physical Education course travelling once a week to Brisbane.

Congratulations to you both! We wish you much love, health and happiness!

Fun And Games At Noosa Reef Hotel

It was one of the best after dark GV events last Thursday with plenty of fun and games.

The Reef Hotel put on a special event for the GV students last Thursday. The manager Joe organised various team games to play, with the winner taking home $100 cash. There was also free pool, connect four, giant jenga and a playstation. The last game involved one person from each team jumping around in front of everyone on the dance floor to try to get 3 balls out of a box strapped to their back. There was one very flexible student who managed to bend backwards and wiggle all the balls out. But it was Dennis and his team who won the $100 cash. Dennis decided to have a big bbq on Friday evening to celebrate and bought food and drinks for all the GV Noosa students!

Outstanding IELTS Scores for GV Students

Rafael Gallet couldn’t wait to show his teacher Anjali his IELTS report. He was thrilled to score overall 6.5 with a 7 in both the speaking and writing sections.

Rafael and his ‘new’ wife Lilianna both studied in the GV Noosa IELTS intensive preparation course, with Anjali Sheppard and Christine White. Lilianna also did well, scoring an overall 6.  They both say that they are grateful to their teachers for helping them achieve their dreams. Anjali and Christine say that their hard work and good study habits produced the results they needed.

Well done Rafael and Liliana.

The Games Student’s Play

It was all about snaps and giggles at GV Noosa this afternoon as the students played traditional board and card games.

It all started with an innocent game of snakes and ladders and ended with daring games of snap. Each nationality showed the other their own version of the game which quickly turned into the loser being dared to do various tasks by the winner. One student was dared to ask a girl to dance but ended up asking a man who happily obliged and proceeded to dip him. Another was dared to tell the gorgeous GV Staff member Nina that he loves her. This love was reciprocated with a hug and a lollie… lucky boy! Others were too shy to perform their dares but there was no pressure as it was all about laughing, learning and stinging palms afterwards from… snap!

Anna Lee Overcomes The Language Barrier

Anna Lee started at GV Noosa speaking minimal English. She tells her story of how she found the determination to learn English and overcome the language barrier to achieve her goals.

I was a Radiographer in my country of Korea. When I came here at about 2 months ago I did not speak English well but was wanting to try to contact an x-ray practice for work experience. I asked the GV Noosa staff for advice and they said not to be scared and encourage me to go and ask the x-ray practice next to the college for experience. It was very difficult for me because my English was not so good. I was worried about that however I tried and they said yes and I could work as a volunteer there! I work there once a week for 3 hours. It is not many hours but I am very satisfied and the time spent is very valuable to me. When I go there I am still a little bit nervous but it is very useful to me and a great experience.

You can do it everyone. Don’t be scared!

Good Luck

Anna Lee

Hooray for a July Birthday!

GV Noosa brought out the cake and sparklers today to celebrate students who were born in July.

Gv Noosa students were treated to mud cake, donuts, chips, cola and other goodies along with bass pumping party music to celebrate student birthdays in July. The party blowers seem to be the highlight for students but a slight headache for the class next door who were trying to concentrate on improving their grammar. Lucky it’s only birthday party time once a month!

Sunset Fiesta Party Heats Up

The after dark GV Fiesta Party at Irish Murphy’s was filled with free pizza and old school dance music.

For those students who think barbecues are hot, you missed out on a sizzling night with all genres of music from MC Hammer to Bob Marley. Don’t miss out on this event next month! There is free pizza at 8.30pm and lots of prizes to give away. If you are not into dancing, there is a pool table and a retro 80s video game machine to keep you occupied. And of course plenty of students and locals to socialise with!

Sunny Courtyard is a Popular Classroom

GV teachers know that students learn best by ‘doing’ and that students also learn best when they are interested and the lessons are fun.

Our communicative approach to learning English gets students speaking quickly and there is no better place for speaking practice then outdoors. Yesterday morning, teacher Anne Potter and her students took full vantage of our ‘outdoor classroom’. The new European students couldn’t believe that this is our winter!

GV Noosa Casino Royale

Walking into the GV Noosa presentation room yesterday was like walking into a casino scene from a 007 James Bond movie, but without James Bond or Martinis (shaken not stirred).

GV Students were given ten chips and had forty minutes to win or lose as many chips as possible. The table was a full of punters throwing chips all over the table with cheers and sighs as the ball fell onto the winning number. Fifteen minutes later there was half the students left at the roulette table. By the end 7 students had managed to come out with a hefty profit. The students then cashed in their chips and were given a fake cheque where they could auction for five mystery prizes including a holiday. Congratulations to Jeff who outbid on auction 3 and won an underwater world getaway thanks to Tribal Travel.

Amazing Race Around Noosa Junction

The GV Students were a little tired from the after dark GV launch the night before yet managed to gather their reserve energy to race around Noosa Junction.

Firstly students were asked to team up and create a name for their team. The creativity was flowing that day with teams announcing names such as ‘Brazil’, ‘Asia’ and ‘Winners’. Teams had to complete two activities at GV Noosa in order to begin the race. First stop in the race was Coles to mark down codes of various items, then Sportfirst to find out the price of the official FIFA 2010 soccer ball, Tribal Travel for an internet search, Video Ezy for movie release dates, The J to ask about shows then a race back to GV Noosa for 1st place.  The race was very close but Brazil took out 1st place and won a $50 bar tab at Koala Bar, a pizza at Irish Murphys and a packet of Aussie Tim Tam’s which were quickly devoured by the team after a race which felt like a lifetime.
