Student News

Sebastian Brendel returned to say “hi” this week before going back to Berlin.

IMGP0539

Sebastian studied at GV Noosa last September and October and since then has travelled all around Australia.

“I arrived with no English and I am so grateful to my teachers because after 8 weeks I had enough to begin my travels and I have had the best time of my life. I wanted to return and say thankyou before leaving. I am sure I will come back again one day.”

Party time again…

Thursday nights at Koala Bar and Irish Murphy’s are popular with all students

Bruno and Rafael always seem to jump in front of the camera, and never miss a night out with their fellow students.  A fun time was had by all especially when it came time for Karaoke.  If you are planning a night out to one of the many clubs in the Noosa area, remember to take original photo ID.   Copies cannot be accepted under licensing laws, and some students were disapointed when they found this out the hard way on Thursday night

Warmer weather means time for swimming

Todays activity was just what the doctor ordered after a late night on Thursday and a hot afternoon.

The hardest part about a visit to Noosa Aquatic Centre is getting everyone out of the pool when it’s time to leave.  Everyone enjoyed ball games and the challenging rocket run, with only 2 students making it all the way to the end of the rocket.  Tomas and Sabastian have been crowned as the rocket run Kings!

Don’t forget your swimmers for Friday

Just a quick reminder to everyone to bring your swimmers for Friday’s activity, water polo at Noosa Aquatic Centre.  There will also be a blow up rocket and plenty of mats and toys.  Meet near the fruit shop before 1.00pm and we will walk there as a group

Following in Her Sisters’ Footsteps

Anita Eggenschwiler says that study at Global Village Noosa has become a family tradition

Anita is the third Eggenschwiler daughter to study at GV Noosa. Her sister Sabine came four years ago prior to becoming a nurse. She loved it so much that she recommended us to her sister Monika who studied here two years ago. Monika is now doing a Communications degree in Switzerland.

Anita says that she has had a wonderful two months and the time has passed too quickly. She feels that the best thing about Noosa is that there is so much to do. “I was never bored” she said, “the beaches are right here and it is easy to get to Brisbane and even the Whitsunday Islands”. “I want to come back again, it has been the best time ever”.

River Cruise brings students together

More than 75 people made the river cruise on Friday afternoon, and the weather did not disappoint

A very low tide on Friday afternoon made the river cruise a little challenging for the captain of the Catalina, but we only hit the bottom once.  Some of the most expensive property on the coast can be viewed from the river and it gave us all something to aspire to.  Strangely enough the full bar facilities on board were left untouched.

Koala bar every Thursday night… Time to unwind

Any stress from the classroom is quickly forgotten when it’s time for dancing and discount drinks

Night life in Noosa offers many options.  Remember there is a free barbeque at Koala Bar on Monday night,  free entry to Rolling Rock and a free pizza night coming up soon.  See Don at the Activities Desk for the latest updates on where to go for cheap drinks and free food.

New computer room up and running

Check out the new computer room!

No more waiting around to use a computer, there’s plenty to go around, and the smell of fresh paint in that room should be not so bad in a few days.

We’ve put in some great new computers, too!

Morning tea in the courtyard

Sunshine and fresh air between classes always brings out big smiles

Nice to see everyone outside enjoying the Spring weather.

Looks like a warm weekend coming up though, so don’t forget the sunscreen if you’re down at the beach.  Check out the beaches in the National Park if there’s a wind blowing – they’re very sheltered with smaller waves, and are a very nice place to spend a lazy Sunday.

Are you looking to work on your ‘real life’ English conversation?

Out and About is a program designed to take English out of the classroom and onto the streets!  It combines formal English lessons followed by activities which provide the opportunity to use what you have learned in a natural setting.  There is no better way to accelerate your conversational English.

The first class will commence on September 14th, and numbers will be strictly limited.  Watch this space for more information.

Noosa National Park

Noosa National Park is regarded by many as one of the most beautiful places in Australia.   Today our TAPs had the opportunity to make up their own minds.

The weather did not disappoint, with clear blue skies and crystal clear ocean waters on display. Once the students reached their final destination “Hells Gates”, a school of dolphins appeared from the ocean depths and provided some amazing photograph opportunities.

Caloundra Music Festival – Tickets on sale now

Tickets are on sale now for the Caloundra Music Festival.  Don’t miss out!!

logo

Held from October 22-25, the Caloundra Music Festival features some of Australia’s top acts.  You don’t have to go far to see it, either – it’s at King’s Beach.

Tickets are sale online now (  http://www.caloundramusicfestival.com/  ) and represent great value for a day of really outstanding music.  My picks are classic Australian performers James Reyne and the Hoodoo Gurus, but there is music there to suit everyone.

Public transport to Caloundra is pretty straightforward…but a little slow 🙁  .  Go to this site –    http://www.translink.com.au/ – and use the Journey Planner.

Grab your tickets…this one is well worth it!

Top Cambridge results….and a repeat offender!

Guilherme  is something of a professional Cambridge student…after taking and passing the FCE and the CAE he is signing up for CPE.

Becky 030

Guilherme may be the first student to sign up for three consecutive Cambridge courses but he wont be the last.  So, what’s the story……?

What do you think are the strengths of the Cambridge courses at GV Noosa?

Firstly the teaching; you have a really wonderful team who are not only experienced but really seem to care about their students. The lessons are very intensive but they still make them fun and they are always willing to spend extra time with you. Secondly, the program; your class teacher is there for you even in the self study time but there are still lots of fun activities so that it doesn’t become too stressful. We love it when the teachers come out and party with us also.

What activities do you enjoy the most?

Student pub night every Thursday is fun, although studying with a hangover the next day isn’t! When the surf is up it is great to go in the ocean before school, the beaches here are so beautiful.

Any other comments?

I was so happy that all the Brazilians passed their exams. I heard that for FCE all the Swiss passed also. We were always teasing each other so it is pretty cool. I also heard that everyone passed BEC Vantage. There will be a lot of happy people out there right now.
